Wec, Raffaele Marciello new BMW driver. Objective Le Mans with the Hypercar

After a five-year partnership with Mercedes, the Swiss driver from the Ferrari Driver Academy joins BMW. His program is yet to be defined, which will most likely see him tackle Wec and Le Mans on the Bavarian Hypercar

The news had been in the air for some time, ever since he announced his farewell to Mercedes at the end of the 2023 season: Raffaele Marciello it’s new official BMW driver. For the Swiss, who has become one of the main specialists in the GT world after switching to covered wheels in 2017, the challenge of the Hypercars and the possibility of racing the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the top category they were too great an attraction. Thus came the signing with the Bavarian company, which will make its debut in the Endurance World Championship in 2023 with its M Hybrid V8 fielded by Team Wrt. Although Marciello’s exact sporting program has not yet been communicated, his presence among the six drivers who will face Wec and Le Mans appears certain.

GT Specialist

Raffaele Marciello’s career saw him win the Formula 3 European Championship in 2013 as a driver for Ferrari Driver Academy, of which he was a member from 2010 to 2015. For him also three seasons in GP2, with a fourth place in 2016 as the best final result. In 2017 came the transition to covered wheels and the GT world: in seven seasons as a Mercedes driver in GT World Challenge they have arrived three overall titles (2018, 2022, 2023), a Sprint (2018) e two Endurance (2022, 2023). He also won a 24 Hours of Spa in 2022 and two FIA GT World Cups in Macau in 2019 and 2023. Just at the end of this season he announced the end of his relationship with Mercedes, of which he had been an official driver since 2018.
