Raymond Mens’ mother thinks it is a shame that her famous son always dresses the same on television. She regularly sends him texts about this. “A T-shirt would also be nice.”

Raymond Mens has quickly become one of the most frequently invited talk show guests. His mother always has the television on when he sits down somewhere. He can often be seen in Today Inside and the affiliated De Oranjezondag. After the broadcast, the American expert often receives a text from his mother.

T-shirt

What does Raymond’s mother say? “My mother often sends me a text message to tell me what she thought of the broadcast. She has also often said: ‘Another nice thing to wear under your suit is a T-shirt.’ My mother’s name is Ingrid and I answer back: ‘Ing, I always wear the same thing, a suit and a white shirt. I don’t do anything different, I don’t deviate from that.’”

He continues in the Weekend: “Then she says again: ‘Yes, but I think a T-shirt would also look nice.’ Yes, but I won’t do it. And that’s how she says it when she likes or dislikes statements.”

More businesslike

Does his father also interfere with his TV appearances? “Cees is a bit more businesslike. He is also proud, but does not send texts after broadcasts. When I am with them, he usually tells me what he thinks. They give their opinion, but actually like any TV viewer at home. Only it concerns their son.”

Finally, why does he call his parents by their first names? “That’s how I was raised. I think it comes from my mother, she also called her parents by their first names. When I talk to my sister about our parents, we talk about Cees and Ing. (…) I always only call them by their first names. I have never called them mom and dad.”
