Once again FC Volendam did not win in the Eredivisie. For the fifth home game in a row, the team took no points. This time FC Utrecht was too strong with clear figures, 0-4. As a result, The New Orange 2022 as closing in.
There were a number of changes in FC Volendam’s basic line-up. Robert Mühren, for example, suffered a concussion last week. He hadn’t recovered enough from that, so he sat in the stands. Remarkably enough, his replacement was not Henk Veerman (former FC Utrecht), but 17-year-old Lequincio Zeefuik. Benaissa Benamar and Daryl van Mieghem sat next to Veerman on the couch.
The first half had few great chances. Gaetano Oristanio curled the ball in front of the goal and Xavier Mbuyamba almost outwitted Filip Stankovic. It turned out to be offside in the end. After this, it was FC Utrecht that made it 1-0. A bet by Bas Dost was turned by Stankovic, but Taylor Booth shot in the rebound. Oristanio seemed to head the equalizer into the goal. Luuk Brouwers, however, took the bet off the line.

Utrecht strikes
Just like in the first half, there were few chances after the break. Amsterdammer Daishawn Redan shot just wide from the turn. Volendam got away well there. Bas Dost headed the Utrecht team to 2-0 from a cross by Othman Boussaid. Veerman was allowed to fill in, but the tall striker was again unable to make his mark.
Oristanio still had the connecting goal on his shoe. The Italian failed face to face with goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas. Sander van de Streek made the grapes even more sour for Volendam in the final phase by scoring the 3-0. After this, Volendam was unable to create a chance. Via Can Bozdogan it even became 4-0 for the Utrecht team.
Due to the defeat, Wim Jonk’s team will enter the winter break as the last. Competitor SC Cambuur is the first opponent in the new year (January 8).
