The WeWorld Women’s Space in the Corvetto district of Milan.

“We started with field work for a few months, welcoming both women who are sent to us by social services, and those who are now starting to come thanks to word of mouth”, says Sabrina Vincenti, WeWorld Italy program project coordinator and space manager Donna al Corvetto, born thanks to the support of AXA Italy which also donated the first 100 health care policies for women victims of violence and their children. «Our users are between the ages of 30 and 50, but we are also trying to hook the younger ones, who are more difficult to reach. They are almost all foreigners, of many nationalities. Their first need is to socialize, to feel part of it, to be listened to. We have individual and group meetings, and they can always bring the children, because we have a play corner all to themselves. Many would like to be inserted or reintegrated into the world of work; we we try to improve their employability, we take a path of empowerment, of self-awareness, we try to bring out the skills, we write the curriculum together. Many are graduates, but are unable to fit in. We then send them back to the local work desk, we have a way of being able to get them to do some internships. An indispensable activity is that of the Italian courses, the basic one has just started. Then the legal advice, they look for information on family law, separations but also over-indebtedness. We also have realx moments, with coffee and conversation in Italian, and a course on self-narration is starting, with a local photographer ».

This week’s emergency is linked to Ukrainian refugees, who need «to meet, socialize and use the computer. We offer decompression space, thanks to a young Ukrainian mediator, who knows the needs of these newly arrived women with their children, and she is helping us a lot. We also offer the possibility of individual interviews but above all we respect their times, without obligations, to let them rest in peace. After all they have been through, and with anxiety about the future, they really need it. “
