The leader of the far-right Brothers of Italy (FdI), Giorgia Meloniaffirmed today that the right will govern “to unite all Italians” in her first statements after her party became the most voted in the country, which will make her the first woman to govern Italy.
In his appearance this morning at a hotel on the outskirts of Rome, Meloni made a very measured speech without triumphalist tonesin which he assured that the right-wing coalition, with Matteo Salvini’s League and Silvio Berlusconi’s Forza Italia, will govern “so that Italians can be proud to be Italians.”
According to partial results, FDI was the most voted party with about 26%while the right-wing coalition with the League and Forza Italia stands at 43%, compared to 26% for the progressive bloc led by the Democratic Party (PD).
“The Italians have given a clear indication from the polls, and lThe indication is for a center-right government with the guidance of Brothers of Italy”said Meloni, who left an analysis of the results for later.
