We tested the potato buns

There were a total of 13 buns in the Laskiais bun test.

There were seven jam buns and six almond buns in the laskias bun test by Iltalehti.

The worst buns in the test stood out clearly, but the votes for the winning bun were slightly divided.

The medal trio for jam buns are Fazer Café, Fazer and Salonen.

In the almonds, the order changed slightly: Salonen, Fazer and Fazer Café.

This time, vegans and gluten-free were deliberately left out of the test, but despite that, one vegan ended up in the group.

In Trube’s flatbread package, the veganism was done very well. Only when examining the package more closely (we wondered about the bad taste of the cream) did we notice that it is indeed vegan. It would be good if veganism was written in big letters, because now we made the mistake of including it in the test. In addition, those looking for vegan products would find the offer better.

The top three of the jam and almond test were the same, although the order changed. Oona Grönqvist

Laskiais buns were bought from the S and K group stores located in the center of Helsinki, as well as from the Fazer Café store. Prices vary depending on which store you buy them from.

The bun from the cafe was the dark horse of the group, because we wanted to test how it ranks with supermarket buns. Its appearance in particular received high marks from the testers.

But in almonds, it ranked third, even though the price is significantly higher than the other test bottles. One bun from Café costs 5.50 euros and a package from Salonen with two buns costs 5.29 euros.

Likewise, all other packages have two buns.

Grades were given in school grades from four to ten.

Laskias buns with jam

1. Fazer Café

Price: 5.50 (one bun)

Grade: 9+

Comments:

– Pretty! Too bad the bun is dry. The whipped cream is the right kind, but the jam is remarkably tasteless.

– A beautiful ensemble. The cream is thick, even slightly strong. The jam has a delightfully nice, thicker texture, which I fell in love with.

– The bun is good, but the jam has a very industrial taste. However, the bun itself under the jam and cream has a functional taste.

– Definitely the most beautiful bun of the bunch with its decorative appearance. The decorative whipped cream extrusion and the cute hat inspire. The cream is fluffy and has a perfect texture – like well-made at home.

– The dough should be a little softer, but the whole thing is tasty and takes the tongue away.

– Delicious appearance. Lots of strawberry jam and plenty of whipped cream. The bun is also good.

2. Phaser

Price: €5.19

Grade: 9-

Comments:

– The whipped cream didn’t seem quite fresh, otherwise ok overall.

– Enough filling and a sufficiently moist option. Tasty bun, although the strawberry jam was quite sweet.

– It’s okay, but a pretty basic bun. It works for someone who doesn’t necessarily eat laskais bun every day. Quite nice, but still one of the best in the test.

– The modest appearance hides traditional and delicious flavors.

– The fluffy, gentle cream is suitably sweet and feels good in the mouth. High-quality strawberry jam.

– Gentle taste with everything, the bun dough is soft and feels fresh. This bun is a pleasant surprise

– Known since childhood. Basic good, nothing to complain about.

3. Salonen

Price: €5.29

Grade:

Comments:

– A nice doughiness in the bun, a gentle whole. Such “not bad”.

– Thicker cream. I liked the bun dough. A good flatbread for lovers of jam filling.

– The strengths of this bun are both in the appearance and the taste of the bun. The fillings also work quite well, although this is not a great experience. Quite a freesia taste: not too sweet, and not too tasteless.

– The first taste is unnecessarily sweet, even essential. The bun is at least ruined by the overly sweet and sugary jam. However, the dough is airy and feels fresh.

– It’s nice when there is granulated sugar on the surface. The bun tastes like cardamom. Real cream. Very good.

4. Rust

Price: €3.99

Grade: 8-

Comments:

– The whipped cream looks boring and old, spoiled the whole bun.

– This one had a slightly more moderate filling.

– Based on the appearance, I was expecting much more tasteless stuff, but this laskias bun works. Good and balanced taste. A little different from many of the other flatbreads in the test. There is not too much jam.

– The bun as a whole is a little too sweet.

– The jam is quite a bright red, but it has an essential aftertaste

– The dough is soft and puffy, that’s fine. This bun is certainly a typical average lowland bun.

– The cream is good, but the jam has an artificial taste.

5. Riverside bread

Price: €4.99

Grade: 7+

Comments:

– A dry bun with a lemony essence that is still unsuitable for this product.

– Fairly large. The slightly dry, bland bun dough did not make an impression. The raspberry jam filling was a nice change though.

– A good and balanced bun. Raspberry is a favorite, but here the flavor of the jam comes through quite strongly. Although the raspberry pushes through the jam a little too much, the bun works quite well as a jam bun. The cream is real cream and there is neither too much nor too little.

– The most boring appearance of the jam buns, an industrial-looking conveyor belt bun. The bun is thick and dry in the mouth. The filling was sparing and the end result was not enough cream.

– The raspberry jam refreshes the whole thing and fortunately there is plenty of it.

– Plenty of cardamom in the bottle, but a little artificial taste. Too bad because this has raspberry jam, which is nice.

6. Elonen

Price: €4.29

Grade: 6

Comments:

– No laskias bun at all, because it’s stuffed with kinuski!

– The kinuski-filled and kinuski-creamy version was not to my taste. I’m not the biggest fan of sweet kinus, that’s why it’s way too sweet for my taste. One sniff was enough to say that this is not for me.

– Really different from the others. In principle, the taste of toffee or kinus is quite funny – or at least different. I was even thinking about a number a degree better, but can this be counted as a laskis bun at all? I think not.

– Depressing looking, not attractive at all. Hardly any cream, the kinuski filling is dense.

– Looks like a bun. This would be fine if the whipped cream had been left unflavored.

7. Trube

Price: €4.40

Grade: 6-

Comments:

– “whipped cream” with an almost disgusting taste, the structure of the bun is very non-existent, an artificial whole.

– The cream in this bun was a bit strange and tasteless. The strawberry jam combined with it made the whole bun too sweet and somehow strange.

– The strangely mushy mouthfeel immediately bothers you. In between sweet and thick cream that doesn’t talk. The essence of the jam is sad. The bun dough feels dry in the mouth.

– In my opinion, the crown of laskais bun is granulated sugar. Where has it disappeared from this bun? It’s ok, but not up to the level of the best bakery buns. Quite sweet and quite a lot of cream in proportion to the jam.

– It’s an off-white cream, and a strange taste. This is not real cream.

Laskiais bun with almonds

1. Salonen

Price: €5.29

Grade:

Comments:

– Perfect for my taste. The bun is ok, enough fresh whipped cream, a charming (bitter) almond aroma in the almond mass.

– A nice moist alternative. Appropriately thick almond mass and delicious bun dough.

– An outwardly modest bun turns out to be surprisingly good.

– Fluffy and tasty overall feeling. Delicious and tasty taste. The dough is soft and there is a lot of filling. Almond paste is so good that you could eat it as is.

2. Phaser

Price: €5.19

Grade:

Comments:

– The bun is perhaps the driest of the whole lot, with a hint of almond mass, a hint of cream.

– Looks a little leaden. Good almond paste and nice bun dough. This positively surprised me with its taste.

– The appearance is boringly industrial. However, the fillings are in balance with each other in taste. A suitably sweet ensemble.

– The abundance and amount of almond paste pleasantly surprises.

3. Fazer Café

Price: €5.50 (one bun)

Grade: 8+

Comments:

– It’s a charming whole to look at, but the bun and the almond mass are different.

– Beautiful! A well-proportioned bun ensemble. Tasty and successful almond paste. A slightly dry bun.

– The appearance of the bun appeals and entices. The cream is fresh.

– Unfortunately, the bun dough is dry. Overall, however, a basic good bun and does its job.

4. Collection

Price: €6.39

Grade:

Comments:

– Too much sugar in the whipped cream. This would spoil the whole thing, the bun is as dry as a rice cake:

– Beautiful. Nice moist version. A perfectly good flatbread for a lover of almond buns.

– The bun is decorated with beautiful almond chips, which make it stand out a little from the rest.

– The texture of the whipped cream is good and the taste is fresh. However, there should be more filling.

– Pulla doesn’t relax at all, but is grounded in the end games. I feel strongly that something is missing.

5. Rust

Price: €3.99

Grade: 7+

Comments:

– Almond mass too thin, almost like a custard, otherwise ok.

– Strange, tasteless cream. Way too little almond paste. The bun itself was tasty though.

– From the outside, the bun is not attractive at all, boring as it may be. There should be more filling. You can barely taste the almond paste because there is so little of it.

– An essence-flavored cream that is unnaturally white in color.

6. Riverside

Price: €4.99

Grade: 5+

Comments:

– Disappointing in every way, I wouldn’t buy it for the looks.

– Fairly large. Way too sweet, because the almond mass was almost completely missing. The bottle also tasted disgustingly dry and shabby. The most unsuccessful calculator in the test.

– Boring appearance and boring bun. The dough is dry and there is little filling.

– Industrial appearance and atmosphere. The bun is a disappointment in every way.
