We tested the layered hamburgers of Mäkkäri, Hese and Burger King – One won

We put the layered hamburgers of the three largest fast food chains, McDonald’s, Burger King and Hesburger, to a blind taste test.

The hamburgers were tasted by a four-person jury consisting of Iltalehti editors, who did not know which restaurant chain’s hamburger they were evaluating at any given time. None of the council members had previously tasted hamburgers from different chains at the same time, so the situation was new for the testers.

Although the hamburgers were served with their original packaging removed, almost all jury members recognized the origin of the hamburgers. Pete Anikari

In the test situation, the jury paid attention to the appearance, structure, taste and ease of eating of the hamburgers.

In the picture, layered hamburgers from Hesburger, Burger King and McDonald’s. The jury was first served a hamburger from Hesburger, then a hamburger from McDonald’s and finally a hamburger from Burger King. The jury tasted the hamburgers side by side and if they wanted, they also took more to get a clear overall picture. Pete Anikari

Each jury member gave each hamburger a school grade. The final grade for Hamburgers is the average of these school grades.

The winner in the test was Hesburger’s layered hamburger, which was praised as juicy and balanced.

Test results:

1st place: Hesburger, Kerroshampurilainen

Grade: 8-

Ingredients: bun, two beef patties, cheddar cheese, ketchup, onion, pickles, iceberg lettuce, paprika and cucumber mayonnaise

Radiant comments:

– There are different sauces here. The fillings are a bit uneven here. The combo of two sauces is really good. If the others also had two sauces, they would reach this level.

– Out of these three, this one has the weakest appearance, the hamburger has clearly suffered during transport and is a bit shriveled.

– The bun is dry, but the mayonnaise is of good Hesburger quality. Yes, this tastes familiar.

– This is the best of them. I recognize this as a Hesburger layered burger. I’m a little surprised myself, because I wouldn’t have thought beforehand that Hesburger’s hamburger would be my favorite.

– I have to raise the grade even now, when I taste these again. Your mayo will stand out, and that’s a good thing.

2nd place: Burger King, Big King

Rating: 7+

Ingredients: Bun, two beef patties, cheddar cheese, pickles, fresh onion, iceberg lettuce, thousand island-style Big King sauce

– The layers are visible well. This one feels the biggest. Like there’s anchovies in here, but there definitely isn’t, heh.

– The bun feels hard, the bottom even dry. However, the flavors stand out nicely.

– There’s a barbecue vibe here. And raw onion. Not bad at all. If the onion was a bit more bitter, it would be too pungent, but now it’s just fine.

– A slightly smoky taste, could it have been flame-grilled?

– By throwing the best of these. The steak tastes like meat, the sauces taste good, the onion stands out. I put it first based on the steak, the bun doesn’t get too much attention here yet.

– It even tastes like a little bit of cheese here, unlike the others.

– The sauces taste cheap, the kind of cheap that you can buy at the store at home.

3rd place: McDonald’s, Big Mac

Grade: 6-

Ingredients: Bun, two beef patties, onion, iceberg lettuce, melted cheddar cheese, pickles, Big Mac sauce

– Rich appearance, looks a bit homemade. The bun is clearly darker than the others.

– This is a strong pickle. I can probably tell which brand of ham it is from the pickle.

– The fillings are moving, this can’t stay together.

– Nice pickles and juicy, but overall bland. The steak is disappointing. Clearly thinner than the others.

– The steak is not very juicy. Is this thinner or lighter than other burgers?

– Strong vinegar taste. Bad bun.
