Film announcements continue to rain down at the CinemaCon film fair currently taking place in Las Vegas. After Sony has already released sequels to “Ghostbusters” and “Venom” had announced, Warner Bros. now followed suit. Matt Reeves, director of the recently released film The Batman, took the stage in person to announce a sequel.
“The Batman” – we explain the film:
As with the first installment, Reeves will co-write and direct The Batman 2. As expected, Robert Pattinson will once again play the role of the masked avenger in the sequel. Matt Reeves has not yet revealed who Batman will be dealing with in “The Batman 2”. At the end of the first part there is a brief appearance of a well-known villain from Gotham, but Reeves also explicitly stated that this sequence is not a preview of the second film, but would round off the story of the first film.
The Batman has grossed around $760 million worldwide to date and is also a streaming hit, according to Warner Bros. That there could be a sequel was therefore already suspected. Now there is certainty. It is not yet known how long fans will have to wait until they can see “The Batman 2” in cinemas. Since work on the film has only just begun, it will probably take a while.
In addition to “The Batman 2”, several spin-offs are also planned for the first film. Irish actor Colin Farrell will play super villain and mafia boss Penguin in one series. And a series about the famous Arkham Asylum in Gotham is also to be developed. However, both spin-offs are not particularly advanced in production either.
