The Berlin City Mission calls for donations for people in need.

“We have never had so few clothing donations as we currently have,” said spokeswoman Barbara Breuer of the German Press Agency. At the same time, the rush for offers of help such as the clothing store has increased by up to 70 percent. Inconspicuous street clothing such as dark hoodies, trousers and winter jackets are needed – especially for men. They are also looking for underpants and socks as well as backpacks and sleeping bags.

According to Breuer, the high willingness to donate after the outbreak of war in Ukraine led to fewer people donating, assuming that there would still be enough donations. At the same time, however, demand has increased since the outbreak of war almost a year ago. Around 30 percent of those in need of help come from Ukraine.

The increased energy and food prices are also causing more and more people to take advantage of the offer. The clothing store alone supplies more than 100 people a day. On Wednesday, the city mission announced that sleeping bags are urgently needed and will also be collected in the Kaufpark Eiche in Ahrensfelde on Saturday. All donations should be clean and in good condition.
