With the Apple Keynote, one of the most important events in the tech industry will take place in autumn, in September to be precise. We expect these announcements and highlights in 2022.
If you believe the rumor mill, then Apple users and interested parties can look forward to a lot of new things this year. After the Mac Studio and a new iPhone SE were presented in the first half of the year, we have a lot more to look forward to in the fall. Traditionally, the big Apple Keynote takes place every September, where Tim Cook presents the new iPhone and an Apple Watch. We also expect these highlights at the Apple Keynote in September 2022.
When will the Apple Keynote 2022 take place?
In 2022, Apple has already hosted two major keynotes. The first took place in March, where Apple CEO Tim Cook presented, among other things, a new iPhone SE and the 5th generation of the iPad Air. In June, the well-known Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) took place, which traditionally focused on the operating systems . Autumn usually belongs entirely to the new iPhone and Apple Watch models.
It is not yet known exactly when Apple’s September keynote will take place. So far, especially Tuesday, September 13th has been traded as a hot candidate. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who has been providing reliable Apple insights for years, now also brought Wednesday, September 7th into the conversation. Gurman was one of the few who predicted March 8th as the correct date for the first keynote this year.
We expect these highlights at the Apple Keynote in September
Of course, what exactly will be presented at the September keynote is not yet certain. On the basis of already known information, rumors and the announcements of the past few years, however, an approximate program can be guessed at.
While we can very likely look forward to details about the iPhone and the new Apple Watch in September, Apple could also outsource information about the Mac and iPad to a second or even third date. The company has done this several times in the past. Ultimately, it certainly depends on the scope of the innovations.
iPhone 14
It is almost certain that Apple will present its new iPhone 14 during the keynote in September 2022. The new generation is said to include four models, with the previous Mini likely to be replaced by the iPhone Max.
Normally, the new iPhones on the September keynote always come with a new processor. This year could be different. According to rumors, the iPhone will get the Bionic A15 chip again and only the Pro model will then be upgraded to the A16. You can read more about this in our large overview article, in which we have listed all the information and rumors about the iPhone 14.
Apple Watch Series 8
The Apple Watch usually also plays a decisive role at the Apple Keynote in September. This is also becoming apparent for 2022. The most prominent representative should then be the Apple Watch Series 8. But that is also possible Introducing the Watch SE2 and the Watch Pro/Max for ambitious and experienced athletes.
In terms of equipment, there is talk of a sensor that can measure body temperature. However, the new chip will probably not make any big leaps in performance. For more detailed information on the new Apple Watch, see our review article.
AirPods Pro
In addition to iPhone and Apple Watch, Apple is also expected to unveil its new AirPods Pro 2. There are rumors about a completely new design. For example, Apple could change the style of the handle and thus approach the in-ear headphones of the competition.
According to the latest rumors, the new AirPods Pro will also get new sensors and more active noise cancellation. The focus should be on the area of fitness tracking.
Macs and iPads
In this area in particular, it seems likely that Apple will hold another keynote in 2022. With the extensive new functions and devices that are emerging, a presentation would otherwise go beyond the scope. However, we are still expecting both the 10th generation iPad and a new iPad Pro this fall.
In addition, rumors of a return of the compact Mac Mini persist. According to insiders, the mini model should be equipped with four instead of two connections. New or updated MacBooks are also expected in autumn. Accordingly, new Pro models could come onto the market upgraded with the current M2 chips. This chip was only recently presented at the WWDC 2022 and should enable a significant leap in performance. Experts also suspect that Apple will have a major innovation around the corner at the end of the year: a new Mac Pro. This would also close a gap in Apple’s portfolio.
HomePod, MR Headset and much more
We can definitely expect the innovations already mentioned this fall. Otherwise, Apple would deviate significantly from its previous rhythm. In addition, industry experts expect a few more announcements apart from the products mentioned.
A few weeks ago, for example, the rumor about a new HomePod caused a stir – and surprise. After the unsuccessful start of the Apple Smart Speaker, the manufacturer could now be planning a comeback. A more extensive update for the HomePod mini also seems to be planned. This would give Apple new impetus to the announced smart home offensive. It remains questionable whether we will hear anything about this from Apple at the September keynote. If the manufacturer shows us something about this, it will probably be in combination with other smart devices for home use.
Insiders also report a mixed reality headset (MR). Tim Cook himself kept making cryptic hints about this. The headset could also be equipped with an M2 chip; it would be Apple’s first product in this area.
Learn more about the September Apple Keynote
WWDC 2022 took place as a hybrid model: partly live and partly recorded. That’s how Apple handled it in its September keynote for the past few years. Due to the relaxed corona rules, a complete live program would also be conceivable again.
As mentioned earlier, Apple is very likely to split its announcements into at least two dates. While the first date is very certain to be in the first half of September, the second is much more uncertain. October is the most likely.
