Richard Marx will release his 13th album, Songwriter, on September 30th. Marx is best known as a former pop star, but the new album aims to show him from a more versatile side: It contains five each pop, rock and country songs as well as ballads.
“I’ve had a great opportunity in my songwriting career to write all kinds of songs with and for all kinds of artists,” says Richard. “And finally it occurred to me that there’s really no good reason not to also record an album of my own that contains all the genres that I love.”
At the beginning of September, Marx released the first harbinger of the album with “Shame On You”. He co-wrote the song with his son Jesse Marx. Collaboration also plays a major role on the album in other respects: co-authors included Burt Bacharach, ex-Evanescence keyboardist David Hodges and Daughtry singer Chris Daugthry.
