TBV Lemgo Lippe achieved their second victory on matchday 3 of the Handball Bundesliga. At HSG Wetzlar, the Lippers were behind for a long time, but turned the game around in the second half.
The TBV won on Thursday evening in Wetzlar with 27:24 (9:13) and celebrated their second win in a row after the opening defeat against VfL Gummersbach. Wetzlar, on the other hand, remains winless after three games. Lukas Zerbe was East Westphalia’s best thrower with seven goals, Leve Carstensen contributed six goals. Lenny Rubin was also the best thrower for Wetzlar with six hits.
Lemgo Lippe got off to a bad start in the game and was already behind 7-2 after just under twelve minutes. Shortly before the break, Hendrk Wagner extended Wetzlar’s lead to six goals, but Zerbe was able to shorten it to 9:13 from Lemgo’s perspective with a seven-meter shot three seconds before halftime.
Lemgo turns the game around with a 7-0 run
After the break, Wetzlar pulled away again. Vladimir Vranjes scored in the 36th minute to make it 15:9. The hosts were able to maintain a five-goal lead until the 44th minute and were ahead 19:14. But then Lemgo Lippe suddenly turned up the heat. Led by Carstensen, who scored five goals in eight minutes alone, the Lippers turned the game around with a 7-0 run and led for the first time in the game seven minutes before the end. Again it was Carstensen who put Lemgo in the lead with 21:19.
Although Domen Novak was able to equalize from the seven-meter line four minutes before the end to make it 23:23, Lemgo was unimpressed and, thanks to a second goal from Zerbe and a goal from Tim Suton, moved back within three goals (26:23 , 59.). The TBV didn’t let this lead be taken away, also because Urh Kastelic made important saves in the Lengo goal.
