Nico Schulz was absent from Borussia Dortmund’s training session on Tuesday. Newcomer Anthony Modeste was there for the first time.
“We discussed that he would clarify a few private issues in Berlin today,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl on the sidelines of the session. He had been on the phone with Schulz “daily in the last few days, we are in close contact”. He should “go back to the team in the next few days”.
Goalscorer Anthony Modeste, on the other hand, was on the pitch for the first time with his new teammates. “He’s really looking forward to the Champions League and wants to prove himself at this level,” said Kehl, who “doesn’t give 1. FC Köln a free pass”: “We have enough guys who have pushed themselves. The coach has enough options to play in different systems.” For coach Edin Terzic, Modeste was the “ideal solution”.
Karim Adeyemi was out on Tuesday after suffering a foot injury in the game against Bayer Leverkusen (1-0). “We hope that we can do it by Friday,” Kehl said, looking ahead to the game at SC Freiburg (8:30 p.m.).
