After a narrow home win against FC Ingolstadt, FC Viktoria Köln is still at the forefront of the 3rd league.
Coach Olaf Janßen’s team won their home game against FCI on Tuesday evening 1-0 (1-0) and climbed to third place in the table, at least temporarily.
Bogićević scores early
Viktoria started the game with the same eleven as in the draw against Sandhausen and started powerfully. The home team took the lead in the 9th minute. Donny Bogićević was set up in an exemplary manner by Niklas May and converted from eleven meters to make it 1-0 for Viktoria. After the opening goal, Cologne increasingly concentrated on counterattacks. In the 23rd minute, Patrick Koronkiewicz almost made it 2-0 with a shot, but was denied by Marius Funk in the FCI goal.
The guests from Bavaria had a little more of the game and had a good chance of an equalizer from a corner. Ryan Malone headed just past the Cologne goal (28th). Viktoria keeper Kevin Rauhut was able to defuse Jannik Mause’s shot out of the fray (37′). Apart from a few yellow cards, nothing else happened until the break.
FCI pressure phase without danger
The FCI came out of the dressing room with flags flying and pushed for the equalizer. Again and again it was Rauhut who defused dangerous situations for Viktoria. When Yannick Deichmann headed the ball, the Cologne goalkeeper made a brilliant save (52′). After that, Viktoria got back into the game a little better, which is why it became increasingly flat.
In the final phase, the Schanzer hit cross after cross into Viktoria’s penalty area, but it was mostly Cologne who got to the ball with their head and cleared it. In the end, Viktoria successfully saved the narrow lead over time.
