HAMBURG/BREMERHAVEN (dpa-AFX) – The deadlocked collective bargaining for port workers at the North Sea ports will enter the eighth round on Wednesday (July 27). The Verdi trade union and the Central Association of German Seaport Companies (ZDS) have agreed on this date, as Verdi negotiator Maya Schwiegershausen-Gth told the dpa on Friday. Further dates have been arranged for August 10th and August 22nd. The ZDS confirmed the three dates on which both sides want to try to find a solution to the conflict, which is accompanied by heavy warning strikes. The “Hamburger Abendblatt” also reported on this.
The three negotiation dates are part of a settlement reached between Verdi and individual port logisticians in the Hamburg labor court last week. It stipulated that the parties to the collective bargaining agreement had to agree on three further negotiation dates by August 26 by this Friday. The settlement also stipulates that Verdi will not call for further industrial action during this period.
With a warning strike a week ago, Verdi largely paralyzed the handling of ships in all North Sea ports for 48 hours. Previously, there had already been an eight-hour and a 24-hour warning strike in June. This means that the strike-related loss of work in the seaports adds up to around 80 hours – the most violent industrial dispute in the ports for more than four decades. The warning strikes have exacerbated the disruptions in container and cargo ship traffic that have been occurring since the beginning of the corona pandemic/kf/DP/mis
