(Day of the week corrected in 1st paragraph: Sunday)
TEL AVIV (dpa-AFX) – Israel’s Prime Minister and US President Joe Biden have agreed to restore water supplies in the south of the Gaza Strip. This will help ensure that the civilian population clears the north of the coastal enclave and moves to the south, as Israel’s army wants, wrote Israel’s Energy Minister Israel Katz on Sunday on the X platform (formerly Twitter). This would allow Israel’s military to intensify the destruction of the Islamist Hamas’ infrastructure in the north of the Gaza Strip.
After Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel a week ago, Katz linked the basic supplies of the civilian population in the Gaza Strip to the release of the Israeli hostages held by the Islamist organization. However, the United Nations called on Israel to allow the supply of food, water, medicine and fuel to people in the sealed off area.
Observers assume that the Israeli military has asked the more than one million Palestinians in the north of the coastal strip to evacuate to the south because a ground offensive is imminent./cir/DP/he
