Waylon’s blood boils with the images that are circulating en masse of a Flemish teenager being humiliated. “If it happened to one of my children… This is really, really intense.”
It’s disgusting: the images currently viral go from a defenseless Flemish teenager who is forced by a group of young people to kiss their feet, after which they kill the boy still beat up. Right-wing politicians such as Filip Dewinter and Geert Wilders use the images to draw attention to their immigration views.
Kiss feet
Today Inside, the most watched talk show in the Netherlands, decided to also show the images yesterday evening, at the request of table guest René van der Gijp. “It’s a shame,” comments colleague Johan Derksen.
René: “Yes, that is outrageous. And they cannot punish those minors.”
Johan: “You are not a match in a group. That child just needs to kiss feet.”
Insane
Rene can’t stand it. “You can’t watch this. And then he gets beaten up. They film it, put it on the internet and it never comes off. It’s insane.”
Wilfred Genee: “It’s really terrible. You had a video like this recently.”
René: “It is in Belgium. There it is really commonplace this kind of nonsense.”
Waylon responds
Waylon’s blood boils with the images. “If it happened to one of my kids… I don’t know what I would be capable of. That’s intense, isn’t it?”
René: “These are perhaps 15 or 16 year olds and you cannot punish them.”
Waylon: “Incredible.”
Sad
Wilfred thinks things are really going in the wrong direction. “It really makes you sad when you see things like this. What you say: if you are the father of a child that happens to… Then you really go crazy.”
Waylon: “Yes, that goes wrong. Then you go in yourself.”
