The much-publicized third division promotion with Forest Green Rovers takes team manager Rob Edwards at least one step up. Relegation-threatened Premier League club Watford announced on Wednesday that they would start next season with the up-and-coming coach.
Watford countered irritations about the supposed poaching of the 39-year-old from the first vegan English football club in the press release. “Rob had a clause in his contract that allowed him to discuss job opportunities with other clubs at any time,” the club said. These talks were ultimately successful.
Edwards only took over the Rovers, which are completely focused on sustainability, in 2021. He led the club to promotion and was voted fourth division manager of the season. Watford FC is fighting against relegation to the second division in the remaining games of the season.
