Water polo club ZV De Zaan put several (former) players in the spotlight today. Lieke Rogge, Britt van den Dobbelsteen and Kitty-Lynn Joustra received thunderous applause and an eternal souvenir. The three internationals became European champions with the Dutch team last week. The club from Zaandam used this achievement to organize a tribute.
Less than a week ago, the Dutch water polo women won the European title. Spain was defeated 8-7 in the final. The standout player was ZV De Zaan player Bente Rogge, Lieke’s sister. Thanks to a goal in the final seconds, she fully secured the victory and the European title. Unfortunately for Bente Rogge, she was forced to miss the ceremony at her club today. She was lying in bed at home with flu symptoms.
“A lot of people have come to the pool and plenty of children want an autograph”
Kitty-Lynn Joustra no longer plays for the club from Zaandam. Last summer she moved to Greece to embark on a foreign adventure. Nevertheless, the former players of the North Hollanders were happy with the tribute that had been organised. “A lot of people have come to the swimming pool and plenty of children want an autograph. That’s great fun,” said a cheerful Joustra.
NH Sport was present today at the ceremony and catch-up match of ZV De Zaan. A full report about the ceremony will be shown in the weekly sports broadcast on Monday.
