Water polo players have to bury their Olympic dream

The German water polo players missed out on reaching the quarter-finals at the European Championships in Croatia and thus had to bury their dream of participating in the Olympics for the first time since 2008.

The selection of the German Swimming Association (DSV) lost the playoff duel with Montenegro 5:10 (3:6) and is therefore only playing for places nine to twelve.

Due to the defeat, the DSV team will not take part in the World Cup in Doha (February 2nd to 16th). The last four tickets for the Summer Games in Paris (July 26th to August 11th) will be awarded there.

The best thrower of the German selection against Montenegro, who finished seventh in the World Cup, was Denis Strelezkij from Wasserfreunde Spandau with three goals.

The German women will only play for eleventh place against the Czech Republic on Thursday (12 p.m.). Germany had already lost the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer and the upcoming World Cup in Doha (February 2nd to 18th) in the round of 16 against France (6:14).
