Water polo players against Canada for place in World Cup quarterfinals | Other sports

The Dutch water polo players will face Canada in the intermediate round of the world championships in Hungary on Sunday. The players of the Greek national coach Evangelos Doudesis finished second in the group behind the United States, after a 22-1 win over South Africa.

Canada finished third in group A. The players lost their last group match 11-7 to host country Hungary, which therefore plays as number 2 in the intermediate round against Argentina. If the Orange team wins against Canada, Spain will wait as an opponent on Tuesday.

The Orange had little to fear from South Africa in the last group match. The Orange won 22-1 (5-1 4-0 7-0 6-0). Lola Moolhuijzen was top scorer on the Dutch side with five goals and Simone van de Kraats scored four times. National coach Doudesis urged the players to be even sharper in the second period.

The Dutch lost the second group match 11-7 to the United States, the reigning Olympic and world champion, and therefore finished second in the group. Only the group winner goes straight to the quarter-finals. The first game was won well against Argentina (29-6).
