On Sunday evening, a water pipe burst in Gotlindestrasse not only flooded the street and sidewalk, but also the basement and underground car park of a residential building.
At around 8:30 p.m., the 45 centimeter thick fresh water pipe broke. A short time later the road was washed away.
The fault clearance service of the Berliner Wasserbetriebe, the fire brigade (45 emergency services), the Lichtenberg district office, the construction supervision, the Berlin Brandenburg network company and the police were on site. When they approached, they were already ankle-deep in the water.
The fire brigade pumped out the underground car park and the basement of the residential building on Gotlindestrasse/Wotanstrasse. The water was shut off, but the water supply was secured by a parallel pipe.
The exact site of the accident has yet to be found. To do this, the road has to be torn up and several vehicles have to be moved.
The emergency services had to secure medicines in a pharmacy. The corner house, in which 70 people are reported, will probably be cleared for the time being. Fortunately, an adjacent retirement home did not have to be evacuated.
The water company will now hire a company to repair the damage and repair the road.
