The old record low according to the sign (4.72 meters above NAP) from 2003 has thus been broken, but in reality that record was already broken in October 2018. Even then, the Waal was historically low: 4.35 meters above NAP.
So no new record now. But the fact is that the water level in Nijmegen has already dropped 1.5 meters since the beginning of July. Rijkswaterstaat expects this to continue in the coming days and weeks. The drought was already clearly visible last week in houseboats that are drying up all over our region.
