High water has also caused problems again in West Friesland. In Enkhuizen, water lapped over the dikes and on Visserseiland in Hoorn, this time the water came through the sandbags. And while it was first thought that the worst was over, an even higher peak is now expected in the night from Monday to Tuesday.
Another strong wind causes waves of the IJsselmeer water to further inundate the area outside the dike below Enkhuizen. In certain areas, such as near the swimming pool, the water overflows the dike, causing the adjacent walking path to be flooded.
The water was so high on Visserseiland in Hoorn that it seeped through the big bags of sand in several places. And while it was still said on Friday that the peak would be behind us. Also because water could be discharged from the Markermeer onto the IJsselmeer.
The water did not yet reach the facades, but some residents have taken extra measures. This is how Marco built Colette a dam in his garage. A pump is ready to remove the water, if that happens.
Exciting: living room 1 meter below street level
His son-in-law also finds it exciting. “The water is currently coming further up the street. And then they expect another peak that will raise it a few centimeters. The living room is one meter below street level. So when the water gets there, it will be flooded.”
In the meantime, the municipality of Hoorn warns about the high water peak that is expected in the night from Monday to Tuesday: “We are looking at whether we can take additional measures in preparation for this to limit flooding.” The water level is then expected to drop because discharge can take place on the IJsselmeer.

Running through flooded Nesbos recreational area
Nesbos recreational area was already closed last Friday after it was flooded by high water. But today the water has advanced even further. It attracts a lot of attention from people who come to take photos.
“I’ve never experienced anything as extreme as this,” says one runner. He has just come from the Nesbos, where he ran through the largely flooded area with his dog.
“This is my regular running lap, so I wanted to do it today. The water reached just below my knees, about 20 or 25 centimeters. I was a bit afraid that the wave would push me off the dike. But it just went well. Good.”
