The passion is of course about the Easter story, but with this sequel the organizers KRO-NCRV and the Protestant Church in the Netherlands also want to pay attention to the story of Ascension.
The passion Ascension
According to the Bible, Jesus rises from the dead at Easter. The story about Ascension tells how he went to heaven next. An official Christian holiday, the meaning of which is not very well known, according to KRO-NCRV.
‘Bright points in the darkest days’
“It has been a long-cherished wish to tell this story behind Ascension as well,” says Peter Kuipers, chairman of the board of the KRO-NCRV. The passion Ascension† “It is one of the least known holidays in our country, but it has a special message. This story is an excellent example of the fact that there are bright spots even in the darkest of days. With this we want to inspire viewers and offer hope. Where Easter offers comfort and is binding, the Ascension story is activating with a call to everyone to stand up.”
Cast The passion Ascension
This sequel features the same actors as in the original The passion on April 14. They are Soy Kroon as Jesus, Noortje Herlaar as Maria, Thomas Cammaert as Petrus, Kim-Lian van der Meij as Maria Magdalena, Dennis Weening as Judas, Sabri Saad El Hamus as Pilate and Ruud de Wild as the narrator. Besides Judas, Peter and Mary Magdalene, there are of course nine other disciples. Read here which celebrities have been given these roles.
Mary Magdalene in the spotlight
In the sequel, extra attention will be paid to Maria Magdalena (played by Kim-Lian van der Meij). Editor-in-chief Reinder van Dijk of KRO-NCRV tells Fidelity: “She was the first to see Jesus after his resurrection. For me, the story is about trust and hope. In our story, she is a woman who struggles with herself, regaining her trust through her contact with Jesus.”
