Watch: sandbags do their job in Hoorn, nuisance remains absent despite high water peaks

The Visserseiland in Hoorn experienced the largest peak of high water to date last night. Because the street is completely barricaded with large sandbags, the water could be prevented from reaching the facades of the adjacent houses.

The municipality of Hoorn already warned that around 3 a.m. tonight the water would reach its highest point yet. This was because the wind had turned to the southeast. It was expected that the many sandbags for doors and garages and a few big bags of sand would not be sufficient. And so more than two hundred big bags were added earlier.

The entire street is therefore hermetically sealed with sandbags. Not an unnecessary luxury, because the advancing water eventually came to a standstill there. This prevented nuisance.

Municipal employees carried out additional inspection rounds and the water level is expected to decrease again.
