267 is the country code for Botswana. If you receive a call or text message from a phone number beginning with +267, and you are not expecting one from Botswana, you should approach the contact with caution.
Suomen Telemarkkintointiliitto ry says in its press release that Finns are currently being approached from Botswanan numbers both by phone and via the Whatsapp messaging application, both by text and by phone call.
Links and login codes are offered in Whatsapp messages, which are used to collect the recipient’s information. Contact requests from numbers starting with +267 should not be accepted.
– This is a traditional phishing scam. They have emptied Finns’ bank accounts and hijacked social media accounts. Phishing companies can be revealed behind the links or they can open the door to malware, chairman of the Finnish Telemarkkintintilititto ry Arto Isokoski says in the announcement.
