Waste dumpers cannot be stopped: municipality removes clothing containers

Two clothing containers are being removed from the Boekt shopping center in Veghel by the municipality of Meierijstad. A lot of waste has been dumped around the containers for years. From sofas to enormous panda cuddly toys. Whatever the municipality does to prevent it. People keep dumping waste. And so the containers are now being removed.

Frans walks across the square near the clothing containers. As soon as you start talking about that place he immediately knows what you are talking about. “Yes, there is always dumping here. Really everything. I have seen sofas and old cupboards there. You can find all the old junk here.”

Sengul has always noticed that too. “It’s really a mess,” she says. “There are buggies or there is clothing. They just keep dumping here.”

The problem has been there for years and the municipality has been trying to do something about it for years. For example, an extra lamp has been placed near the clothing containers and the dumped waste is being cleaned up as quickly as possible. Warnings and fines have also been issued.

But nothing helps. “Despite everything we have done to combat the number of waste dumps, it continues to increase,” says councilor Jan Burgsteden of the municipality of Meierijstad.

It happens at any time of the week at any time. The municipality cannot constantly monitor, she said in a statement. And so it was decided to remove the clothing containers. That will happen sometime in the near future. Plants will then be placed in place of the containers.
