What a day to forget for the New England Patriots and Mac Jones: The team suffered their next defeat in Germany. Jones was even relegated to the bench in the final two minutes. Does this mean he loses his place as starting quarterback? Head coach Bill Belichick spoke about this question in the press conference.
Was it the mistake that broke the camel’s back? At the end of the 4th quarter, the New England Patriots have another opportunity to take the lead against the Indianapolis Colts in the Frankfurt Game.
QB Mac Jones throws the ball into the end zone, but his pass is intercepted by the Colts defense – interception. When the guests punted shortly afterwards, Coach Belichick did not send Jones back to the Frankfurt lawn for the Patriots’ last attempt at points, but instead sent substitute Bailey Zappe. A wad for the playmaker, who had already received a loud announcement from his QB coach.
Alone: The backup can’t shine either, but instead throws the next interception. The Patriots lose 6:10.
Even before that, however, Jones had hardly been able to gather any arguments for himself. He was sacked five times in the first half alone. Before his late turnover, the 25-year-old had almost thrown his first interception, but was lucky that the defense couldn’t hold on to the ball.
NFL: Bill Belichick sees “time for change”
“Yeah, I thought it was time for a change,” said coaching legend Bill Belichick at the postgame press conference when asked about the late change at the quarterback position. So is Jones out of the starting job? “We’ll think about next week next week,” Belichick continued.
The Patriots have a bye week in Week 11 and won’t be back on the field until November 26th. Then it’s against the New York Giants, who are also struggling.
With a record of 2-8, the NFL’s record champions are in last place in the AFC. Belichick’s team continues to slide into crisis, and the German air didn’t bring any improvement either.
Patriots captain Matthew Slater summed it up after the defeat: “We had a good time in Germany – until the game started.”
