• Still only five positions in the Munger depot
• Holdings unchanged in the third quarter
• Total value of holdings decreased
Since Mungers Daily Journal Corp’s invested assets exceed $100 million, the company is required to file a 13F form with the SEC every three months, thereby disclosing its investments.
Investments untouched in Q3
In the third quarter of 2022, the star investor and Berkshire Hathaway Vice Charlie Munger did not touch the five positions in the portfolio. However, the stock exchange legend had to cope with losses in most positions – only one position was worth more than in the previous quarter as of the reporting date at the end of September. Total value of investments decreased to $163.481 million in the third quarter of 2022 from $174.930 million in the previous quarter.
5th place: POSCO shares
POSCO, in which Charlie Munger has been investing since the fourth quarter of 2013, ranks fifth in the Munger depot. In the third quarter of 2022, Munger continued to hold 9,745 shares in the South Korean steel group. As of the reporting date, they were worth $357,000, down 18 percent from the previous quarter. In the depot, the stake is just 0.22 percent.
4th place: US Bancorp stock
US Bancorp’s 140,000 shares held accounted for 3.45 percent of Munger’s portfolio in the third quarter. The stock market expert also left this participation unchanged. At the end of September, the shares were valued at $5.645 million. That means a drop in value of twelve percent compared to the second quarter.
3rd place: Alibaba stock
Amazon’s competitor Alibaba remained in third place in Q3. After Munger threw hundreds of thousands of Alibaba shares out of the portfolio in the first quarter of 2022, the stake remained unchanged in both the second and third quarters. In the past quarter, Munger still held 300,000 Alibaba shares, which, with a total value of $23.997 million, were worth 30 percent less than in the second quarter. Nevertheless, the stake accounts for 14.68 percent of the entire portfolio.
2nd place: Wells Fargo stock
The US financial services company Wells Fargo remains in second place in the third quarter of 2022. As in the second quarter, Munger held 1,591,800 Wells Fargo shares, which were valued at $64.022 million as of the reporting date, a three percent increase over the previous quarter. Wells Fargo thus achieves a depot share of 39.16 percent.
#1: Bank of America stock
Bank of America occupied the top position in the Munger depot in the third quarter of 2022 as well. The star investor has held shares in Bank of America since the fourth quarter of 2013. Munger left the position unchanged in the current quarter. With a value of 69.46 million US dollars as of the reporting date, the investment suffered a loss in value of three percent, but the 2,300,000 BofA shares made up a portfolio share of 42.49 percent.
