Warm weather and heavy loads: new GFT containers deform De Wolden

Things are not going very well with the new organic waste containers in De Wolden. According to the municipality, several containers were damaged.

Cause? Too much organic waste. “To prevent direct damage to your new container, we advise you not to overload the container and especially not to tamp the contents,” the municipality writes.

If garbage is stuck, the garbage truck has to shake the container back and forth to get it out. This can cause damage. “The heavier the container, the greater the risk of damage.” The municipality advises people to go to the recycling center if they have too much waste. Gft waste can be handed in there free of charge.

According to De Wolden, new containers are still very flexible, because the material still contains many plasticizers. The advantage of new containers is that they do not tear as quickly as the old containers. The only problem is that those flexible containers deform in hot weather and when the load is too heavy.

The older organic waste containers had to be replaced because they had become stiff. In cold periods there was a risk of cracks.
