Warm Dam tot Damloop expected, organization warns participants

This weekend the sun is expected to shine brightly during the Dam tot Damloop, resulting in warm temperatures. The organization therefore warns participants to slow down their running pace, drink enough and pay close attention. Supporters are also called on to act quickly and actively if runners report symptoms of overheating.

This year is the 37th time that the running event takes place from Amsterdam to Zaandam. Some running enthusiasts participate in every edition. Like the Zaanse Peter who took part in all the times.

Running time not available

Last year it rained heavily, but this year very different weather has been predicted. Heat always entails additional risks and that is why the organization of the major running event is setting up an extra water station around the fifteen kilometer point this year to provide runners with extra water. In addition, the participants are also monitored closely and their running time will not be available to recreational participants afterwards.

Supporters are asked to bring extra cups of water, sponges and water sprinklers. There is also warned not to encourage runners to exceed their limits and to pay extra attention to runners who show signs of overheating. Signals may include looking pale, runners appearing confused and fainting.

In addition to Peter, Purmerender Jan is also participating. At 86 years old, he is the oldest participant of the event. Jan tells more about this in the report below.
