Waregems cultural center gets new building with café

The former library will be completely demolished. It will be replaced by a new wing measuring 20 by 30 meters. At the level of the Zuiderpromenade, there will be an attractive new entrance hall and a culture café, where you can always go for a drink regardless of a show.

This culture café will be able to boast a large terrace with a view of the Regenboogpark and the renovated building. On the ground floor there will be a new sanitary block and four multi-purpose rooms, one of which will serve as a teaching kitchen.

Upgrade existing building

Waregem is also tackling the existing cultural center building. There will be a truck lift and the foyer will be renovated and equipped with new reception furniture and cloakroom.

The spaces to the left and right of the theatre, adjacent to the foyer, will serve as exhibition spaces. Finally, the blue and red halls will have new entrance doors, so that all rental rooms can be accessed from the new central circulation point.

Today, the city’s multi-year plan provides for a budget of 5.7 million euros for the expansion of the De Schakel cultural center and for the works in the Schakelbox.
