Waregemnaar shatters Belgian record in Marathon des Sables in Moroccan Sahara

Participants of the Marathon des Sables run 250 kilometers in seven days through the Moroccan Sahara. Timmerman completed the job very quickly and finished in eighth place. He thus breaks the Belgian record. “Because the climate in the Sahara is so specific, Gert-Jan had to partly train in a heat chamber. This way he could prepare his body a bit for the heat,” says friend Cato Pluym.

Timmerman had a special motivation for his challenge. After his sister Lobke was diagnosed with breast cancer, the twenty-something decided to link a fundraising campaign to his participation to support Think Pink. In total, the Waregemnaar raised 11,681 euros for the organization.
