Ice hockey: Jokerit Helsinki waives KHL playoffs

The Finnish ice hockey top club Jokerit Helsinki has already reacted. After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Jokerit decided not to take part in the playoffs of the East European elite league KHL. Instead of playing against Spartak Moscow from March 1st, the season will end early, the club announced on Friday.

The decision was preceded by talks with the KHL leadership, club boss Jari Kurri said. Jokerit referred to existing contracts with the league, which initially had to be taken into account.

Volleyball: decision in due course

At the request of the sports show, the European volleyball association CEV said that they were in close contact with the national associations and clubs concerned. The top priority remain”as always, the safety and well-being of all participants in our events“said CEV spokesman Federico Ferraro. If necessary, a decision will be announced in due course.

The quarter-finals of the men’s volleyball champions league are scheduled for March 8th. Among the eight teams are two Russian ones: Zenit St. Petersburg and Dinamo Moscow.

No major sporting events in Ukraine

It is already certain that no major international sports events will be held on Ukrainian soil this year. Planned qualifying games for the men’s basketball world championship and the women’s handball championship in Ukraine have already been postponed.
