“Want to go to the final”: Master Bietigheim hot for the European Cup

The championship is home, now the international premiere title is to follow: The handball players of the SG BBM Bietigheim start with a lot of self-confidence and plenty of anticipation in the Final Four of the European League.

In Viborg, Denmark, the team of coach Markus Gaugisch, who recently took over the German national team, wants to wrap up the first European Cup victory in the club’s history at the weekend.

According to Gaugisch, even taking part in the final tournament is an “absolute highlight”, but he and his team are striving for more. “We want to reach the final of the competition,” said Gaugisch before the semi-final against Herning-Ikast Handbold on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).

According to Gaugisch, Bietigheim need “probably the best performance of the whole year” to survive against the top Danish club led by German goalkeeper Sabine Englert.

Second European final in sight

The final on Sunday (6 p.m.) beckons – for Bietigheim, who had already secured their third German championship title early in May, it would be the second final appearance in a European competition after the defeat against Rostov-Don in the EHF Cup 2017 .

The second finalist of the current competition will be determined between host Viborg HK and CS Minaur Baia Mare from Romania.
