Walk-in house for people with cancer officially opened
The brand new building cost one million euros. You can sit in the seat to read or talk with fellow sufferers. There is also a massage room and you can follow yoga and cooking initiation. There are also walks and workshops. Philippe Duyck, driving force behind ‘Warm Nest’: “We are a very warm hospital. That is one of the values of our hospital. But we notice that there is a great need among cancer patients to make more time for explanation, information, reception, nurturing, helping to bear grief, and comforting.”
Ann Nackaerts, coordinator ‘Warm Nest: “The patient is welcome. But the next of kin, patients and their family and friends are certainly welcome to come to a workshop or activity as well.”
The non-profit organization Warm Nest has been recognized as a project by the King Baudouin Foundation. Everything is free and that is why Warm Nest is dependent on gifts and donations. On June 21, Lieve Blancqaert will come to CC Scharpoord to talk about her photo series ‘Warm Nest’ and there will be a piano concert by Nell Swerts. The proceeds go to ‘Warm Nest’.
