“We produce more than 80,000 units of the current generation every year. In the long term, we are also planning the fully electric Macan on this scale,” said Albrecht Reimold of Automobilwoche. As a compact SUV, the Macan is the sports car manufacturer’s best-selling model.
So far, Porsche had not wanted to name any specific sales targets for the E-Macan. The Macan will be built in Leipzig, and production of the electric model is scheduled to start in 2023. Everything depends on the global development of e-mobility. “We are therefore flexible and will manufacture the combustion model in parallel for around two years,” announced Reimold.
The Macan is the second purely electric model from the sports car manufacturer. This will further increase the share of purely electric vehicles in sales. Porsche sold 41,296 units of the first purely electric Taycan model last year, which corresponds to 13.7 percent of the total volume.
Unlike the Macan, the Taycan has no combustion counterpart. However, it outsold the 911 last year, despite the latter setting a new sales record of 38,464 units.
Via XETRA, VW shares temporarily fell by 3.81 percent to EUR 140.20.
