VVV-Venlo has won the make-up match against Helmond Sport with 0-3. The men of coach Jos Luhukay led 0-1 on the stroke of half-time against the home team, which played the majority of the game with ten men.
After the break, Nick Venema made it 0-3 with two hits.
light predominance
A weakened VVV-Venlo started the catch-up match against Helmond Sport in Helmond. The first danger came from Helmond Sport, but goalkeeper Mike Havekotte had to pull out all the stops in the fifth minute to keep Mitchell van Rooijen from scoring a goal. A short time later, the VVV defense had trouble blocking a shot on goal by Lucas Defise.
Helmond Sport had a slight preponderance against the Venlo players in the initial phase. After just over fifteen minutes of play, Sven Braken tried to head a cross from debutant Ian Hussein Ngobi into the goal, but there was too little power behind the ball to make it difficult for goalkeeper Havekotte.
Red for Vereijken
Helmond Sport put pressure. Boyd Reith’s shot just went past and Sander Vereijken’s long shot disappeared high over the VVV goal. Vereijken received his second yellow card of the game shortly afterwards and was able to call in.
VVV in the lead
VVV-Venlo then got a better grip on the game, but only took the lead just before half-time with a goal from Carl Johansson who fired in a cross from Ian Hussein Ngobi.
Second half
VVV got the first chance to expand the lead six minutes after the restart, but Joeri Schroijen’s shot from about thirty meters went high. Shortly before, VVV had crawled through the eye of the needle when a shot on goal was just cleared from the line. The eleven of VVV did not have it easy against the ten of Helmond Sport. Sven Braken appeared face to face with goalkeeper Havekotte after a pass by Carl Johansson, but did not get the ball into the goal.
Venema scores
Only in the 63rd minute did VVV double the lead. Nick Venema received a pass from Braken and controlled the ball against the ropes. Helmond Sport made a shocked impression against the eleven from Venlo. Boyd Reith tried to make the connecting goal fifteen minutes before the end of the distance, but his shot went high. Shortly afterwards, Nick Venema went to the goalkeeper alone, but keeper Havekotte prevented Venema from scoring. Three minutes later he was allowed to cheer for his second goal of the evening when he converted an assist from Kees De Boer and VVV led 0-3.
revenge
That position did not change in the remaining minutes and with a 0-3 victory the Venlo team took revenge for the 4-0 defeat against FC Eindhoven.
