VVV loses jubilee match of leader Emmen | 1Limburg

VVV-Venlo was unable to give the anniversary of ’50 years De Koel’ an extra shine in a sold out stadium. Leader FC Emmen won in Venlo, 0-2.

It was a perfect poster for the jubilee match: in full sun against the leader and the winner of the 3rd period, FC Emmen. Trainer Jos Luhukay started with attacker Yahcuroo Roemer on the right. On the defensive, Tobias Pachonik and Brian Koglin returned.

Quick penalty
Precisely attacker Roemer made a minor foul in his own sixteen in the 2nd minute, referee Perez thought that was heavy enough for a eleven meter. Emmen striker Reda Kharchouch shot the penalty over the goal. A good boost for the home team, which scored the first chance two minutes later. The outside of Kees de Boer grazed the post and disappeared next to the goal. There was plenty to do in the opening phase.

Loss of the ball
VVV kept Emmen under pressure. The people of Drenthe could not keep the ball in the team. That changed when Emmen got control – and more possession of the ball. In the 25th minute, after Nick Venema lost the ball, Peter van Ooijen (ex-VVV) had a good shot. Goalkeeper Delano van Crooij stopped the ball with verve. On the other hand, his colleague goalkeeper Michael Brouwer did so on an attempt by VVV player Rayan El Azrak (31′).

The first half started with Kharchouch’s missed penalty and ended with a great chance for the Emmen attacker. Only going by goalkeeper Van Crooij, he pushed the ball wide. 0-0 at halftime.

Farewell Post
At halftime, the farewell to Danny Post was commemorated. The Amsterdammer played eight-and-a-half seasons in Venlo and moved to Almere City FC during the winter break. Post became a permanent fixture, became captain and played 255 games for VVV. He was loudly applauded by the Venlo audience one last time.

anniversary shirt
Both teams started the second half unchanged. VVV-Venlo played for the occasion in special shirts that are auctioned and the proceeds of which go to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
The first chance was again for the guests, but Burnet was unable to take advantage. After five minutes the first substitution followed: Ian Hussein Ngobi, who made his debut last Monday and excelled at VVV against Helmond Sport, replaced Mitchell van Rooijen.

Minor
The mood turned sour in the 67th minute. Jari Vlak did good preparatory work which was completed by Rui Mendes, 0-1. VVV struggled to make the game and hadn’t had a chance after 25 minutes. A double substitution followed: Sven Braken and Stan van Dijck came ahead of Joeri Schroijen and Kees de Boer. But VVV was powerless to become dangerous. FC Emmen scored the 0-2 in the 6 minutes of extra time. Sem Dirks made a mistake and Azzeddine Toufiqui took advantage of that (90+2).

VVV Venlo remains tenth, Emmen is more firmly in the lead.
