VVD party chairman Klaas Buigel from Ter Apel is annoyed by his own party, which is obstructing the introduction of a new asylum law.
“Nobody likes coercion. But now my feeling is: you leave us in Ter Apel with it. A fat middle finger. Sorry, I really can’t say it any other way.” he says in the Volkskrant.
Buigel (44) is party leader for the VVD in the Westerwolde city council. “I would also prefer that it be done on a voluntary basis,” says Buigel. “But we have noticed that it does not get along that way. Workarounds are now being used all the time. Sometimes very expensive, such as those cruise ships. I think that is the case. madness.”
“Not everyone can say: not in my backyard. Two thirds of the municipalities, about two hundred, deliver below average. When you see how great the need is in Ter Apel, you really can’t come up with: but we do take in twenty Ukrainians. We have two thousand asylum seekers in a village with less than ten thousand inhabitants. And then we also receive Ukrainians in Bellingwedde.”
