VVD member Roelien Kamminga from Groningen has renounced his candidacy for the presidency of the House of Representatives

VVD MP Roelien Kamminga will not run for chairman of the House of Representatives. Kamminga confirmed this to Dagblad van het Noorden after reporting by Nieuwsuur.

So far, two candidates have presented themselves for the presidency. This concerns Tom van der Lee (GroenLinks-PvdA) and Martin Bosma of the PVV.

“It is important that there is something to choose from,” says Kamminga. In her view, the two MPs who have put themselves forward are ‘good candidates’. “They both have experience as chairman and as a member of the presidium.” That is the executive board of the House of Representatives.

It was a ‘personal decision’ to forego a possible chairmanship, says Kamminga. The MP has recently been mentioned as a possible candidate. She is now vice-chairman of the House of Representatives.

MPs can nominate themselves until ten o’clock on Tuesday morning. The House will vote on a new chairman on Thursday.
