VVD member Daan de Neef resigns as MP because of ‘ice cold’ asylum approach

VVD MP Daan de Neef resigns as MP and leaves the room because he does not agree with the “VVD commitment with regard to the reception crisis and the communication about it last Friday,” he writes in a statement on Twitter. He informed his group on Wednesday evening, he says.

De Neef states that the VVD is ‘simply’ no longer his party, because, for example, he had counted more on ‘humanity’ in a week in which a three-month-old baby died in Ter Apel and Doctors without Borders spoke of an emergency. “That compassion failed to materialize and, to my taste, an ice-cold approach was taken in its place,” De Neef writes on Twitter. “I can’t and won’t defend this.” De Neef lacks balance in his political work, between doing good things and defending other subjects with difficulty.

He cancels his membership after 18 years and returns his seat.
