It was D-Day in the Hoofdklasse A, with TOGB – HBS and Be Quick 1887 – SJC. Hoogeveen seemed to have the easiest ‘job’, at least on paper, with the number 7 of this class.
But whoever thought that was very much disappointed. At halftime it was already 0-3 thanks to two goals from Ilias Latif and one from Khalid Kada. They were tee gifts and a perfect transition moment. The first goal was a free ball from Latif, where Hoogeveen goalkeeper Stan Meekhof was not free. The second goal of the top scorer of the league A (after today with 27 goals) was preceded by an incorrect pass by Jim Veltmaat. Latif took advantage and shot diagonally in. Hoogeveen then got into the game better and had plenty of chances to bring back the tension, but Levon van Dijk and Raphael Ngendakumana couldn’t get the ball past goalkeeper Tim van de Linden, who also had a great safe on a long shot by Tom Heerkes . In the forty minutes that followed, the home club still had plenty of chances for the 1-4, 2-4 and perhaps more, but the completion was far below standard at the home club. Not even a penalty kick was used. Joost Screever saw his bet turned by Van de Linden. Levon van Dijk eventually saved the honor for the home club, on the advice of Kjelt Engbers, but Nico Haak’s men didn’t get any further than that.
