VV Alkmaar won for the second time in the women’s premier league last night. The Alkmaarders are not yet having an easy season and are entering the winter break as number nine. Trainer Mark de Vries had hoped for more, but sees progress. “I expected us to be one place higher.”

The Alkmaarders have so far won against PEC Zwolle and Telstar, against sc Heerenveen a point was taken. As a result, Mark de Vries’ team can be found in ninth place with seven points. The born Surinamer mainly sees that the larger clubs such as Ajax and FC Twente are a bit too big. “We are a real training club, but even as a smaller club you want to achieve a result against a top club. We have not managed to do that yet. If we do succeed, we know how it feels and how much effort it has taken.”
“Last season and this season we really showed that we can play football”
The difficult first half of the season may also have to do with another aspect. The North Holland club has lost many players. “Last year and this season we really showed that we can play football, but you must not forget that we have lost fourteen players. It is very nice that they have been able to take a step, but as a club you have to do it all over again. start,” says De Vries.

“Unfortunately it won’t work in the games yet, but I’m not worried yet”
VV Alkmaar only managed to find the net six times this season. This makes the North Holland team the least scoring team in the competition. Trainer and former striker De Vries scored his goals in Scotland, England and France, among others. He’s not yet hands-on. “We train a lot on finishing and scoring goals. I just don’t see the problems there. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work in the games yet, but I’m not worried yet. At least we create the chances to score.”

De Vries sees his selection taking steps in the right direction. Despite this, he does not want to speak out loud about the club’s goal. It is certain that De Vries wants to do better than last season. “We could have done that already, because we should have scored many more points. We made too many mistakes and got a taste of our own medicine. I assume that we have learned from the first half of the season, so that we can pick it up again after the winter break .”
