Vuelta has yet to start, but Jetse Bol’s Spanish team has already lost a rider | Vuelta

The Spanish cycling team Burgos-BH has already lost a rider before the start of the Vuelta in Utrecht. Spaniard Manuel Peñalver has tested positive for the coronavirus and is therefore not allowed to participate in the stage race.

The Vuelte starts today with a team time trial over 23 kilometers with start and finish at the Jaarbeurs. Burgos-BH, with the Dutchman Jetse Bol, will be the first team to start that time trial at 6.30 pm. That happens with seven instead of eight riders.

The Spanish team does not have a license for the WorldTour, but can participate in the Vuelta with a wildcard. Earlier this week, Ángel Madrazo of Burgos-BH already tested positive for corona. He shared a hotel room with Peñalver, who also received bad news on Friday morning. For Madrazo (34) Burgos-BH was able to appoint a replacement on Thursday: Victor Langellotti. The 27-year-old rider from Monaco recently won a stage in the Tour of Portugal. Peñalver (23) may no longer be replaced by another rider, as a result of which the field of participants of the Vuelta is already reduced before the start.
