Vueling settles the first day of strikes with 54 preventive cancellations and “without incidents”

First day of a long cycle of strikes within Vueling. The cabin crew of the airline owned by the group IAG They have stopped their activity this Tuesday to demand a salary increase from the company that will allow them to face the increase in prices and they intend to repeat the mobilization every Friday, Sunday and Monday from this Tuesday, November 1 to January 31 of the year coming. His intention is to do it also on December 6, 8, 24 and 31 and January 5.

However, for now the strike starts without much impact. According to the balance offered by the airline mid-morning, the company has operated 90% of the scheduled flights “normally” and “without incident”. “Punctuality has been 93.3% in the airport of Barcelona and 92.02% throughout the network,” the company said in a statement.

The firm claims to have been working since last Friday on a flexibility plan for customers which has included the preventive cancellation of 54 flights that were scheduled for this Tuesday and that were not protected by the Minimum Services established by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. In Barcelona specifically, 25 of the 156 scheduled flights have been canceled this Tuesday, which means, in this case, that 84% of the total have operated normally.

According to the company, the majority of clients had already been relocated yesterday, either on other Vueling or other company flights or on alternative means of transportation.

In its balance, Vueling has also taken the opportunity to ask the union that has organized the strike, STAVLA, call off the stoppages. However, this labor organization has defended, as reported by Europa Press, that “the group of cabin crew cannot continue to be immersed in the situation of salary insecurity in which they find themselves while the company extends over time the negotiation of the collective agreement“.

Thus, the intention of the union is to maintain strikes. Given this, Vueling has already advanced that it anticipates that this ratio of 90% of operated flights will be maintained every day that the mobilization lasts.
