The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascalrevealed earlier this month that I was holding meetings with Tamames on the need for the Cortes Generales to make a “deep reflection” on the situation that Spain, which could be articulated through the motion of censure, and began negotiations with the economist.

Days later, Abascal asked for “a little patience” regarding the conversations with the politician and confirmed that “there is a lot of interest” between the two to present a motion of censure. “We continue working to reach an agreement that allows us to present a historic motion of censure,” he said then.

Tamames acknowledged that he was willing to lead the motion against the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, although he acknowledged that the decision had not yet been made because there were details to be closed with Vox. Regarding his political career, Tamames was a member of the Communist Party (PCE) during the dictatorship and was a councilor and first deputy mayor of the Madrid City Council during the mayoralty of Enrique Tierno Galván. He later joined the Democratic and Social Center (CDS).
