Without Jana Feldkamp, Maximiliane Rall, Sjoeke Nüsken and Martina Tufekovic, the German soccer players are going to the European Championship in England.
National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg eliminated the quartet when nominating their final 23-strong squad for the tournament from July 6th to 31st. Captain Alexandra Popp from VfL Wolfsburg is also in the squad. The most experienced national player with 113 international matches had to go into isolation after a positive corona test in preparation.
“In the end, only nuances decided, because the power density in our squad is very high,” said Voss-Tecklenburg. It hit Tufekovic as the fourth goalkeeper, the defenders Feldkamp (both TSG 1899 Hoffenheim) and Rall from FC Bayern and the versatile Nüsken from Eintracht Frankfurt.
As a precaution, Chantal Hagel from Hoffenheim will be the 24th player to take part in the second European Championship training camp in Herzogenaurach, which begins on Tuesday, the DFB announced. Most recently, some players from the provisional 28 squad were also injured. With eight professionals, VfL Wolfsburg is the strongest block in the team of the record European champions.
The DFB women will play their only test match before the European Championships against Switzerland in Erfurt next Friday (5:00 p.m. / ZDF). In England, Vice European Champion Denmark (July 8th), title candidate Spain (July 12th) and Finland (July 16th) are the German group opponents.
