Vorwerk warns of the risk of scalding with the Thermomix TM6

Vorwerk has issued a precautionary warning for one of its Thermomix models. When cooking with the corresponding device, users should therefore be particularly careful.

The Vorwerk Thermomix is still a very popular kitchen appliance. However, the manufacturer now warns of the risk of scalding with its Thermomix TM6 food processor. A certain component is to blame. Users should now pay attention to this.

Vorwerk issues a warning of increased pressure in the Thermomix

A fixed measuring cup is installed in the Thermomix TM6 as standard. In certain recipes, ingredients can float up during cooking, condense and prevent the intended steam from escaping, the warned company. This escape could possibly lead to scalding. “As a result, in extremely rare cases, increased pressure can build up in the mixing bowl, causing the food to be cooked to suddenly and uncontrollably escape, which can lead to scalding in individual cases.”

That is why Vorwerk decided to issue a public warning as a precaution, the company reported. In addition, the buyers would be informed directly. The likelihood of such an incident increases if you exceed the recommended filling level of the food. According to Vorwerk, this also applies in cases where a measuring cup from the TM6 is used in an older device. The problem seems to lie primarily with the corresponding measuring cup.

There is no danger with the TM5 measuring cup, for example, as it sits loosely in the lid of the mixing bowl. Incidentally, the Wuppertal-based manufacturer is not planning a general replacement of the cups.

Thermomix users should avoid this

Vorwerk advises usersto use the simmering basket instead of the fixed measuring cup of the TM6 for cooking processes with temperatures above 95 degrees. In this way, a corresponding incident can be avoided. In contrast to the measuring cup, the cooking insert lies only loosely. This makes it permeable to vapor and prevents food from splashing out.

The company also emphasized that a software update for the Thermomix would send all users a corresponding warning in the future. Owners of a corresponding Thermomix should therefore install the update immediately so that they always receive the latest warnings. Vorwerk also adjusts the stored recipes so that the device actively indicates proper use. However, this does not apply to users of recipe chips.

According to Vorwerk, more than eight million units of the food processor have been sold worldwide to date.
